London-based fashion designer Laura Myers has quietly created a tidal wave of excitement with her two year old Atea Oceanie, founded out of a desire to bring simplicity and minimalism in womenswear.
Born in New Zealand, Myers spent many childhood summers in Tahiti and decided to name her brand in the Polynesian language to express her affinity to the islands and reflect the relaxed lifestyle and beauty they inspire. While attending Brown University in the US, the designer took internships at Ralph Rucci and Louis Vuitton, working under Peter Copping at the latter, before moving to Europe to set up her lifelong vision. The label’s understated elegance and daywear rapidly caught the eye of Hollywood stars like Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Olsen, Naomie Harris, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristen Stewart, who wore one of the brand's signature crisp button-downs and white track pants for the American show The Today Show and instantly put Myers on the fashion map. Carried at Selfridges in London, and, since this summer, Barneys in New York, Laura Myers is set to have her label become a global destination brands.
